The directorate provides operational, technical, and forensic support to judicial police operations and special units, working closely with national and international partners.

This is a secure, primarily on-premise environment where technology directly supports mission-critical investigations.

Location: Brussels area (well connected by public transport)

2. Job Description

We are looking for a driven and detail-oriented Software Engineer (Python/Django) to join an existing team of four developers working on an application that supports operational investigative needs.

You will contribute to building new features while maintaining and improving existing functionality in a secure, high-sensitivity environment. The project is delivered using Agile methodologies, and you will work closely with stakeholders to translate operational and business requirements into robust technical solutions.

3. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance features in a Python/Django-based application supporting operational investigations
  • Maintain, refactor, and optimize existing functionality with a focus on performance and reliability
  • Build and maintain front-end components using React
  • Develop and maintain APIs (REST, SOAP, GraphQL) and support containerized deployments (Docker)
  • Ensure code quality, data integrity, and security within a sensitive judicial environment

4. Profile & Competencies

Must-Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Development / IT (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong Python skills with proven Django experience
  • Strong front-end development experience with React
  • Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines
  • Ability to obtain security accreditation/clearance, with professional proficiency in English and Dutch or French

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with Nginx or Apache
  • Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms
  • Experience with pandas and advanced SQL
  • Experience working in secure or regulated environments
